We invite you to join us for the College of Arts and Sciences鈥 premier lecture series
鈥 Frontier Forum. This event is presented in partnership with Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society鈥檚 Visiting
Scholar Program and the Judy Genshaft Honors College.
Since 1956, the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program has offered undergraduates
the opportunity to spend time with some of America's most distinguished scholars.
The purpose of the program is鈥痶o contribute to the intellectual life of the campus
by making possible an exchange of ideas between the visiting scholars and the resident鈥痜aculty
and students.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged but not required.
ABOUT THIS EVENT
Geraldo Cadava will discuss how immigration policy has changed over time, how the border has evolved and what makes the present situation both similar to and different from earlier moments of crisis.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Professor Cadava is a historian at Northwestern University, contributing writer for The New Yorker, and鈥痑uthor of 鈥淭he Hispanic Republican: The Shaping of An American Political Identity, from Nixon to Trump鈥濃(Ecco, 2020), and 鈥淪tanding on Common Ground: The Making of a Sunbelt Borderland鈥濃(Harvard, 2013). At present, he鈥檚 writing a history of Latinos over the past 500 years, tentatively titled 鈥淎 Thousand Bridges,鈥 to be published by Crown in 2026. Professor Cadava hosts the podcast Writing Latinos, and is co-editor-in-chief of the online magazine Public Books.
