CMER Outstanding Emerging Researcher Awards

The Outstanding Emerging Researcher Award is offered biennially in conjunction with the Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium. It was initiated by the Center for Music Education Research at the 最新天美传媒 in 2009. Its primary purpose is to honor music education researchers who are producing high quality research at early stages of their careers. The next award is scheduled for presentation in 2025 at Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium XV. The award recipient will receive:

  • an award plaque.
  • an honorarium (US $500).
  • a place to present the award-winning paper at the Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium XV, February 5-8, 2025.
  • a consideration to publish the award winning paper, pending on satisfactory external reviews.

Eligibility

  • Music education researcher employed as a faculty member in a K-12 school or college/university (pre-tenure), or as a student enrolled in a graduate degree program.
  • Dissertation studies are NOT eligible.
  • For co-authored applications, the first author must fulfill the eligibility stated above and is responsible for the majority of the study tasks from conception to completion. If such an award is offered, only the first author will receive the award.
  • All current members of CMER and alumni of USF Ph.D. in Music are not eligible.

How to Submit/Nominate:

  • An abstract of no more than 250 words and full paper of no more than 25 pages, double spacing, in .PDF format with no author identifying information, should be emailed to bugosj@usf.edu as an email attachment by September 13, 2024. The paper must conform to the latest version of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association or The Chicago Manual of Style. The cover email should include the research title, author's name, email address, phone number, address, current position, institutional affiliation, academic degrees and years, teaching and work experience, and list of co-author(s) (if any).

Selection Process:

  • The Executive Board of the Center for Music Education Research serves as the review panel (blind review) for the award. Selection criteria include clarity of the research purpose; appropriateness of the research design, implementation, and interpretations; and the quality of the written report. The Executive Board reserves the right of not offering an award.


Expectations of the Award Recipients:

  • Present the research report at the Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium XV.
  • Transfer the copyright of the research paper to the Center for Music Education Research or its designated publisher.
