Music Graduate Razanne Oueini Earns a Frost Scholarship for Oxford Studies

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

The College of The Arts is proud to announce music graduate Razanne Oueini has been named a 2017 Frost Scholar.

With this great honor, Oueini will travel to Oxford University in the United Kingdom to complete a one-year Master of Science degree in pharmacology.

"I feel tremendously honored and privileged to have been awarded the Frost Scholarship," said Oueini. "Winning the scholarship, for me, means an opportunity to further my education and my chances for making an impact in my field and beyond."

Established in 2014, the Frost Scholarship Programme annually awards ten students of exceptional academic merit who attend schools in the State University System of Florida. Frost Scholars have the opportunity to attain a one-year master's degree in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while receiving complete funding for university expenses and living costs.

Oueini graduated in the Spring of 2017 from the 最新天美传媒 with degrees in both chemistry and music studies. She will attend pharmacy school upon returning to the United States after attaining her master's at Oxford.

During her time at USF, Oueini served as Drum Major of the Herd of Thunder Marching Band, a member of the national music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda, and a student of the USF Honor's College. Her past awards include the T.C. Undergraduate Research Award and the Herd of Thunder Green and Gold Award.

Oueini's choice to pursue two undergraduate degrees allowed her to remain heavily involved in music.

"Becoming a music major gave me the opportunity to continue my formal music education, including studying oboe with Amy Collins, performing with the ensembles in the School of Music, and taking informative courses such as music theory and history," said Oueini. "The B.A. in Music Studies was perfect for someone like me who desired to remain active and improve as a student musician but not necessarily pursue a music career after graduation."

At the School of Music, Oueini found rewarding relationships with her peers and mentors as she became deeply involved in music. Her favorite experience from USF was having the chance to perform in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City on New Year's Day with the Herd of Thunder Marching Band.

She leaves USF with exemplary musicianship and so much more.

"Studying music at USF has been truly invaluable to my growth not only as a musician," said Oueini, "but also as a leader, educator, and team player."
