Art history alumna Dr. Izabel Galliera has authored a new book titled Socially Engaged Art After Socialism: Art and Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe.

The publication is an important contribution to the field, covering the rise of socially-engaged art practices in Central and Eastern Europe after 1989 through the use of archival material and exclusive interviews.

Grant Kester, professor of art history at the University of California calls the book "the first comprehensive scholarly treatment of the important new forms of socially engaged art that emerged in Central and Eastern Europe following the demise of the USSR. Its publication represents an important intervention in the emerging critical and theoretical debate around socially engaged art, and will allow us to further broaden the geo-political scope of this important research."

Galliera earned a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 2013, a master's degree in art history from the ý in 2005, and a bachelor's degree in art and art history from Troy University in 2001. Galliera currently serves as assistant professor of art history at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.
