USF Institute for Research in Art Presents Free Artist Talk at Tampa Theatre

On Tuesday, September 10 at 7pm, the USF Institute for Research in Art, part of the
College of The Arts, is pleased to present Stink! Stank! Stunk!, a free artist talk with celebrated conceptual artist Alex Da Corte.
Da Corte鈥檚 work is inspired by American pop culture, and ranges from surreal immersive
video and neon installations to wall-based work and inflatable sculpture. He stimulates
the collective cultural imagination with colorful characters, products and references
from movies, literature, television, mythology and cartoons.
Fresh off recent installations at the 57th Carnegie International and the 58th Venice
Biennial, Da Corte will discuss his influences and creative practice.
In support of the USF Institute for Research in Art鈥檚 mission to engage the Tampa
Bay community through dynamic cultural events and exhibitions with the leading contemporary
artists of our time, this program with Alex Da Corte is sponsored by USFCAM Art for

About The Artist, Alex Da Corte
Alex Da Corte was born in Camden, New Jersey, in 1980. He received a Bachelor of Fine
Arts from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and a Master of Fine Arts from
the Yale University School of Art. Da Corte was most recently included in La Biennale
di Venezia 2019, the international exhibition May You Live in Interesting Times curated
by Ralph Rugoff; as well as the 57th Carnegie International in Pittsburgh. His most
recent solo exhibition was held at K枚lnischer Kunstverein, K枚ln, Germany (2018). Other
recent solo exhibitions include Karma, New York (2018); Secession, Vienna, Austria;
Art + Practice, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2016); MASS MoCA, North Adams, Massachusetts
(2016); Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Netherlands (2015); and Institute
of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia (2014, together with Jayson Musson). Da Corte is
the 2019 recipient of the Wexner Center鈥檚 Artist Residency Award in Visual Arts.
About the USF Institute for Research in Art
The USF Institute for Research in Art (IRA) is the umbrella organization for the Contemporary Art Museum, Graphicstudio, Public Art program, and Art in Health. Part of the University of South Florida College of The Arts, the IRA is dedicated to an international artists鈥� residency program that brings to the University and Tampa Bay community today鈥檚 most accomplished and influential artists working in the international art arena. Exhibitions, collection development, publication of limited edition graphics and sculpture multiples, commissioned public art works, interdisciplinary arts research, lectures, symposia, workshops and special events are designed to foster awareness about the role of contemporary artists in shaping our culture and society.
