Dr. Khalilah Louis Caines is an Assistant Professor of Instruction and the MSW Coordinating Chair and Advisor for the Sarasota-Manatee Campus. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder ('02), her Master of Social Work from Saint Leo University ('11), and her Ph.D. in Public Affairs from the University of Central Florida ('23).
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Qualified Clinical Supervisor, Dr. Caines brings over 20 years of experience working with adolescents and families impacted by trauma. She leverages this extensive background to create a holistic, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. Committed to fostering growth and learning, she emphasizes care and support, empowering students to reach their full potential.
An accomplished scholar, Dr. Caines has published several book chapters on topics including adolescent mental health, child welfare, and culturally responsive trauma-informed care, as well as articles on social work education. In addition to her academic contributions, she facilitates mental health workshops to improve community health, effectively bridging research and practice to inspire meaningful change.
Driven by a commitment to social justice, Dr. C's research focuses on enhancing the well-being of underserved and marginalized individuals, families, and communities. Her work empowers the next generation of social work professionals to be agents of change and advocates for social justice.
