Anna Pyayt at AESML Conference for Rising Star Award

USF Faculty Honored at ASEMFL 2024, Featuring a Rising Star Award Recipient!

The USF College of Engineering proudly celebrates the recognition of several faculty members by the . Dr. Anna Pyayt, associate professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering, received ASEMFL 2024 Rising Star Awards, highlighting their pioneering work and potential to shape the future of her fields.

Dr. Prasant Mohapatra, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and USF鈥檚 provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, and Dr. Sylvia Wilson Thomas, a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and USF鈥檚 vice president for research and innovation, have been named , along with Dr. Susan Bell, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus in the Department of Integrative Biology in the College of Arts & Sciences. Dr. Hariom Yadav, associate professor of neurosurgery and brain repair in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, also received ASEMFL 2024 Rising Star Award.

Dr. Anna Pyayt, associate professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering, and , associate professor of neurosurgery and brain repair in the , received ASEMFL 2024 Rising Star Awards, highlighting their pioneering work and potential to shape the future of her fields.

ASEMFL Awards Recognize Excellence in Science, Engineering, and Medicine

The selection of Dr. Mohapatra and Dr. Thomas as inductees underscores their achievements and dedication to advancing engineering research. Dr. Anna Pyayt鈥檚 acknowledges her significant contributions and promising potential in engineering and biomedical research. Her work is recognized as groundbreaking, with applications in diagnostics, mobile health technologies, and cancer treatment.

About the Event

Held on November 1, 2024, the in Orlando brought together Florida鈥檚 leading researchers, industry professionals, and academics. The event featured a keynote by National Academy of Medicine President Victor Dzau and discussions on topics like climate change and biomedical innovations. The ceremony honored twenty new inductees and Rising Stars who are expected to lead advancements in science and engineering across the state.

About Dr. Anna Pyayt

Dr. Pyayt directs the . Her interdisciplinary research focuses on developing bio-sensors, AI-driven diagnostics, and innovative healthcare technologies. Among her notable accomplishments is the Mobile ELISA diagnostic tool, a technology that gained international attention as a finalist in the XPrize competition. Dr. Pyayt鈥檚 work in artificial intelligence and assistive technologies has the potential to revolutionize diagnostic methods, making early detection of medical conditions more accessible worldwide. 

Dr. Pyayt said, "With the support from the National Science Foundation and the Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program, I am committed to driving innovation in data science and cancer research with the goal of making a meaningful impact in people's lives."
